Upcycling with besties

Discover phase
At the beginning of the project, my team and I used the Lotus Blossom method to identify the topics we needed to research.

During the initial research phase, I conducted LITERATURE STUDY on upcycling.

In the second research phase, I focused on gamification and conducted a COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS.

Define phase
In 3 separate subgroups (me) (Sander & Justin) (Briahna & Mariana) we each worked on developing an idea.

In the end, I came up with Upcycling with Besties, an upcycling simulator game with visual novel elements. The game was designed to follow different mini-stories of high school girls who needed new clothes but, instead of buying them, chose to upcycle old or distressed garments.

Both our teachers and the client approved this concept, so we decided to move forward with this idea.

Develop phase
After redefining our target audience, we also needed to redefine our game. To include males and young adults, we decided to change the protagonists from high school girls to an upcycling store employee.

In this new version of the game, customers would bring in their distressed clothes, and with the guidance of Hermit the Crab, you would upcycle the garments.

My idea was to begin by creating a MOODBOARD with the following categories: characters, clothes, tools, backgrounds, gameplay, and colors.

After that, I explored different ideas for how the tools, clothes, and characters might look.

Deliver phase
Through EXPERT INTERVIES and USER TESTS, I refined the characters, walking animations, tools, and gameplay. I was also tasked with designing and developing the game logic for the upcycling simulator aspect.
